Englisch:
Nachtmeerfahrt is a term by the philosopher C G. Jung to describe an emotional state of emergency that can happen in the consciousness or subconsciousness. He imagines this state like a ship in high seas on a dark, cloudy night - uncertain about the height of the waves and whether it is possible to even navigate.
This state of instability- in which it is not always clear where you are, what is ahead of you and what will happen in the future- is a guiding concept in the Rundgang exhibition of class ter Heijne. By creating a joint exhibition with a collective installation the class obscures where the individual works start, where they end and where they actually are.
Artistic production never happens in a vacuum— it is always shaped by individual situations and biographies. In the exhibition Nachtmeerfahrt, the artworks exist in relation to other works, found objects, sounds, smells and light sources in the space. Sometimes they even merge, forming a collective installation.
